Are you afraid that a replacement cartridge will void your warranty? Or that you can be charged for service to your printer if you don’t use a cartridge produced by the original manufacturer? Many consumers believe that their printer can only use ink and toner from the printer manufacturer.
Wrong!!!
That would be like a Razor and Blade model wherein one item is sold at a lower price in order to increase sales of a complementary goods such as consumables.
The truth is, you can use whatever replacement cartridge you want in your printer. Simply put, it is illegal for a printer manufacturer to require you to purchase or use a particular brand of cartridge.
For any printer you have different options available when it comes to choose consumables.
1 Original Equipment Manufacturer(OEM)
2. Remanufactured printer cartridges
3. Compatible Printer Cartridges
An OEM Cartridge comes directly from the printer’s manufacturer(i.e HP, Canon, Brother, Epson)
A Remanufactured cartridge is the one that has been re purposed for continued use on a particular model of printer. They are inspected to make sure there is nothing wrong with the cartridge shell, then each cartridge undergoes a thorough factory cleaning in a controlled, dust free environment. The cartridge shells are then re fitted with new parts, refilled, tested and finally sealed.
A properly made Remanufactured cartridge perform equivalent to brand new cartridges in terms of print quality and page output. Moreover these cartridges are 60-70% cheaper than brand new cartridges.
Using Remanufactured cartridges are good for enviornment too as you are reusing the cartridges rather than creating more waste by buying new ones.
A Compatible Cartridge is the one manufactured by different company but fully usable for a particular model of printer.
What’s the bottom line?
At the end of the day, only you, the consumer, can decide what to use in your printer. Any sales or service person that says otherwise is trying to intimidate and mislead you. An original equipment manufacturer cannot void your warranty because you exercise your right to choose a preferred brand of printer cartridge.
Don’t be afraid to tell this to any service person or original equipment manufacturer representative who threatens your right to choose the inkjet or laser cartridge of your choice.
